Trauma-TIC!!

Sunday afternoon was a dreadful time. Brode and Graham were doing the usual, fighting over a toy. Only this time is was our cute Rocking Horse that they were fighting over. Brode was on it, Graham wanted on it. Brode started acting silly, like he was going to fall off. Graham pushed him slightly. And there Brode went.... off the back end of the horse. As Brode fell off, the spring-loaded seat flew up and knocked Brode right in the mouth. Immediately there were screams, followed by the most amount of blood I have ever seen. It was awful! Brode kept crying, "Grahamie shouldn't do that!" And the worst of all, "Mommy you should have saved me," my worst nightmare!

After making a few phone calls to some experienced parents, and having a doctor at an urgent care center look at him, we decided we definitely needed to take Brode to the ER. He was excited. Yes he was in pain. But he was so excited to see a doctor, and to talk to every nurse about what happened. He wasn't shy at all or nervous. In the car ride over he made both Micah and I promise that we would stay with him the whole time. Boy I didn't know what what I was getting into.

The Doctor came in and evaluated Brode's wound. Then he began to tell us his plan of action. Micah and I both sat still. He told us that they would numb his mouth (the area around his cut), wrap him up in a sheet like a papoose so he couldn't move and that he'd get some help holding my child down. A male nurse/ body guard to hold his head still, Micah to hold his arms and myself to hold him legs. HOLY CRAP!!!!

It was awful. Brode cried and screamed. He was terrified. We kept talking to him to calm him. Told him we were right here. Nothing. I wanted to leave so bad. I couldn't bare my poor child being tortured, but he made me promise in the car. So I knew I had to keep it together.

The Doctor and the nurse tried to cover his eyes; they thought that maybe if he couldn't see what was going on, he'd calm down. But no. That made it worse. He kept asking me to come closer. "Mommy I can't see your eyes! I want to see your eyes!" I'd get my eyes close to his, and that seemed to help some.

Well now it's been two days. His poor lip is swollen. He can barely talk and does his best to eat. But he has only positive things to say about the traumatic experience. And we survived!

Immediately after the 5 stitches.
It took me a long time to calm him down.

Poor little lip.

Thanksgiving Feast

Last Thursday Brode's class had a Thanksgiving Feast. All the parents were invited to join them for the feast. I volunteered to help set up so I got to show up earlier and surprise Brode. The little boys were the Indians and the girls were pilgrims.

He can't wait for our Thanksgiving Dinner with Aunt Pat and Carol and the Dobbs'!!

Kids say the darnedest things!

Brode was talking to Uncle Luke on the phone just a little bit ago. This is what he said:

So there is something in my mommy's tummy.

It has eyes,

and a mouth,

and legs,

and feet,

and arms,

and a stomach,

and it’s a baby!

So.... Technically.... I love it.

Brode is such a cute little guy. We've never heard him say 'technically,' before, but I guess there is a first time for everything! And a third...

Happy Halloween

Trick or treating was very fun this year. Also short and sweet. We went just a few blocks away from our apartment and hit up just two blocks. We walked. No stroller. Which I think was smart on our part because the boys grew tired from walking very quickly. Brode was so excited. He knew exactly what was going on.

Graham on the other hand did not. He insisted on ringing the doorbell and knocking after Brode. And once they opened the door, Graham would walk right into the house. "I come in, " he'd say. We'd have to pull him out. The people always laughed. Glad they thought it was cute. And we saw many dogs along the way which distracted Graham from the task at hand.

Micah and I were very impressed. Neither boy ate any candy during Trick or Treating, they didn't even ask. They were good little Batman's. We had a great night. Hope you did too.

Tired.
Walking back to the car.

The Halloween Party

Last week Brode had a little Halloween Party with his classmates. They decorated their riding toys and had a parade. Then snacks and sang songs.

Do you see my little Batman in the back???

The Pumpkins

Two Friday's ago, we loaded up the car and drove 40 minutes from our house to the cutest little town called Flower Mound, where we visited a pumpkin patch.
They had little cartoons characters all over.
Graham saw Wall-e and immediately walked up to give him a kiss.

Graham discovered bounce houses....
and a piece of straw. Ah, my little botanist.

Gettin' Mommy with his piece of straw.

Goofy face child.

Trying to get them to both poke their heads out at the same time and look at Mommy is next to impossible. At least we got close with this picture.

Score!
They each were able to pick out one small pumpkin (the large ones were so expensive). They held them on their laps the entire way home. Brode was so excited!

After the pumpkin patch we made a few stops. One to look at this huge furniture store. Micah's recliner broke and we wanted to get an idea of how much we need to save. Then we also stopped off for dinner. Brode couldn't wait any longer so we hurried home to carve pumpkins.

This was our very first year carving pumpkins with the boys. Like I've said Brode could not wait. Micah assisted Graham and I helped Brode.

Finished product.
Brode's batman on the left and Grahams smiley pumpkin on the right.

I was seriously the coolest Mom after carving a bat"man" into his pumpkin.
I scored big big points.
