4th of July, 2012

We did this year's 4th of July up right. We started the day with the Edmond City Parade. No candy (highland park/Dallas). No water fights (Boise). Just a lot of Beauty Queens. Many. Graham and Rocco lost interest quite quickly. Not Brode though. He loved each and every float. He wanted to sit and watch and discuss it all. He loved it. Thought everything was so beautiful. Micah and the young boys headed to the car (and air conditioning) and Brode and I sat in the grass and watched.

After the parade we headed home for lunch and naps. Rocco and Mommy needed naps. Before I laid down I got my corn casserole and my festive berry cobbler ready. I baked the cobbler and put the corn in the fridge. Then laid down. After our naps we played in the water at a friends house. And ate fruit and chatted in the air conditioning.

We headed home for naps (again). While Rocco, Brode and Graham napped (they had to sleep if they wanted to see the fireworks). I cooked the corn casserole and got everything ready to head to the BBQ. Mirjam, my cute friend, invited us to her parents' house again for dinner. There was tons of great food and desserts. After dinner we watched Mirjam's Dad and his friend play and wrestle with all the kids. My boys loved that. We then played a round of Family Feud before heading back to our house to get ready for the Fireworks. Again we put Rocco down for just a little bit (it was bedtime for him, but we wanted him to go with us to the fireworks; we figured an hour would buy us some time and happiness). We went to the UCO campus and found a super close grassy spot to plop ourselves down for optimum watching. It was loud and the boys loved it.

Waiting patiently....

lost patience.
Rocco's like "what the heck kid!"

Seriously had to look straight up to see them. We were so close.
Rocco didn't like the noise. Usually you go to your Mom for comfort. Well,
he went to his Dad for protection. He climbed over the boys to get to
his Daddy's lap. He'd whine a little, but was overall ok.
We ate red vines while watching the Fireworks :)

Great traditions you are building for your sweet boys. Sounds like you had a very full and fun day. I would have been right there with Rocco.....a three nap day, sounds so perfect!!!!!
